What Is a Class Action Lawsuit?
When a defendant or group of defendants has allegedly harmed a large number of people, the various claims can be consolidated into a class action lawsuit. A notification of the class action lawsuit is sent out to potential plaintiffs who must decide whether to remain in the class, or prefer to handle their case individually. Potential plaintiffs who do not opt out of the class within a limited time period are automatically considered a part of the class and are bound to the results of the class action lawsuit.
